Members of the Moose Lodge Women team Patti Duerrler of Norwich, Kelly Cote of Lebaon, Heidi Burt of Bozrah, and Nancy Shaffer of Norwich, Saturday, August 21, 2010 won the sixth annual Connecticut MooseRiders pig roast cook-off in Bozrah.
Our Girls - The Best of the Very Best!

“We were pretty excited to win,” said Heidi Burt, a member of the all-female foursome. “We finished in third last year, but we made some changes and it looked like it paid off.”

“I said, ‘If they can have a cookout in the South, why can’t we do it,’ ” Pierce said. “The first time we got over 300 people, and it just keeps growing and growing ever since.”

On Saturday, more than 430 people came, each paying $10 at the door. The cover charge included hamburgers, hot dogs and side dishes, all donated by the lodge, along with the roasted pig.

The money goes to charities and people in need, Pierce said.

“We first help out people in the lodge, people who are sick and need aid,” said Diane Pierce, Mark Pierce’s wife. “Then we give the rest to local charities, like Madonna’s Place we did one time.”
